previously announced:

Don Casey AA, VP rev mgmt
Tom Trenga US, SVP rev capture.

Newly announced:

Andrew Nocella US, SVP/CMO. (Andrew Nocella (US) will be most similar to Virasb's role.)

Under him:

Kurt Stache AA, SVP Alliances (was VP alliances)
Fern Fernandez US, VP Marketing (was MD marketing and FFP at US, so promoted, essentially; Rob Friedman (formerly this position) is leaving AA)
Derek DeCross AA, VP Sales, no change
Suzanne Rubin AA, President AAdvantage, VP Customer Insights and Loyalty, no change
Chuck Schubert AA, VP Network and Schedule Planning, no change
John Gustafson US, VP Digital Channels, basically same role as today

So, I think, a very good (and sizable) AA team remaining. Probably best anyone here could have ever hoped for.

My pleasure. I think the blogger/etc consensus was in the opposite direction, but I was always quite optimistic on this front.

Excellent!

After the other announcements, I was not optimistic. I hope this means what we think it means.

Thanks for the news.

Was it? FWIW I don't think it was mine. I was very interested to see this decision, thought the smart business move was to keep the person with experience running a multi-billion dollar enterprise not least of which when they'd be using the existing AAdvantage platform. And I noted that Fern Fernandez was hardly Parker's old school inner circle. But it's good to see the decision made and interesting that Fern is staying on as VP of Marketing.

It sure was! You really don't remember?! Some folks at AA sure do. I have 100x more respect for you than any other blogger (to say the least,) so please take this in the spirt proffered, you took it as a given that AAdv would be run by a (specific) US person post merger.

Refresh your memory at all?

(Please do take this in the playful, kinda celebratory (that Suzanne Rubin is staying on) way they I intend it! I really do *not* lump you in with the rest of the bloggers. Yours' in the only FF blog I read.)

Well, I don't remember writing it. But there's no question that I've gone through several stages in my thinking about it.

I was calling AA "a bankruptcy filing waiting to happen" for the two years before they filed. I thought the US Airways initial offer/gambit was a hail mary, too cheap, and not likely to happen.

Then Horton offered the spin that the combination was 'really his idea' originally (pre-Chapter 11) and it seemed pretty inevitable. The pilots had their job action, and it was hard to imagine the airline remaining standalone with Horton at the helm.

It happened -- a deal was announced -- and my emotions probably colored clear-headed analysis, coupled with there simply being so much uncertainty. Although on day 1 I was comforted by Parker's comments about sticking with the AA passenger service system.

But I don't actually remember a prediction -- no doubt someone will dig up a link -- that Suzanne wouldn't lead the program post-merger, though I do remember being concerned. I'll trust your memory on this, though..!
