All indications are that we'll know long before then, after next weekend, I'd wager.

Obviously as that date approaches, more and more AAgents will know "something's coming" but I expect them to be unusually circumspect.

I just got off the phone with an AAgent, and he said that he's going into a class tomorrow to learn about the changes, but did not know what there were....

Yes, those classes have been going on for a while, personally I'm under the impression that the early AAgents who took them had to sign NDAs.

I have refrained from commenting on this thread lest I go straight into speculation mode, but to be honest I am concerned about the upcoming changes due to the way I maintain status (deeply-discounted economy fares and e-VIP transpacific on "N" and "V" fares). Well, time to see what they are soon ...

That would be exactly the reason that some changes would be in AA's interest, actually. Simply adding "fare bucket" as a sort criteria between elite status and time of request would reward hi-fare PLTs who buy at the last minute -- and now, in most cases, get absolutely no reward for their travel $. Either that or, as another option, awarding stickers to EXPs for 1.0 EXP travel and requiring that they be used on domestic fares that earn 0.5 EXP.

I hate to say it, but those would be easy and make sense from a revenue standpoint too.

I'm personally (and not with any particular information on the subject) expecting the Mexicana announcement very soon as well-- possibly even as soon as this month-- but I don't exactly see a straight-line connection between that linked page and the stuff being discussed here.

So does May 8/9th have have anything to do with this?

I just put an award reservation on hold and instead of the normal 5 day hold, I was given a hold until May 8th. I called AA to see if this was a technical (or user ) error. After they did some checking, the agent came back and was very vague as to the issue. Basically she said everything is being held until then. I asked if there was something "special" about that date and all she said was "yes". She wouldn't go into any more detail.

[Edited to add] Oops, just noticed this was asked in the (*official*) Hold times on award tickets to be reduced thread.

Report on FT that AAgent(s) now leaking the introduction of one-way AAwards (as part of the) change.

I'd consider this quite credible.

Sounds like a good start. Hopefully there isn't a coresponding increase in miles needed for the r/t. The pessimist in me still assumes there will be some negatives coming out of these changes.
