I hate taking chances on these things, so I'm actually booking any associated trips as separate round-trips. I'm fortunate that the price difference is largely limited to a second set of taxes, so it's a small price to pay.

Note that I'm not saying that any person is right or wrong on this -- I'm just playing a bit more risk-averse on this one, given that this promo (like all AA promos of this variety) is harder to pull off from Reno than from just about anywhere else on the list.

Now I just need to decide whether I want to get this done faster by booking the second set as a nested ORD-LAX (with a redeye) inside a RNO-ORD with a forced overnight in ORD.

Sweet deal, I wish I hadn't missed this. I just got the promo email from AA today and the $188 a/i ORD-LAX and ORD-SLC fares have long vanished.

Still considering doing it for $218 a/i if I can get work to cover one of the trips.
